Oh, and David Gerrold, writer of "The Trouble with Tribbles", is gay as
well and has an adopted son. I hoped I ruined that episode and
tribbles for you.
And in the early 1990s, Gene Roddenberry publicly promised openly gay
crew members of the "Enterprise" would be seen in ST:TNG, but he died
before he could see this was done.
He didn't try. In fact, he fought against it, as David Gerrold could
tell you about his unproduced first season story.

Well hell,

David Gerrold I knew about for a while.
I knew 20 years ago.

Sorry, it's too late. Since Mr. Takei has felt it necessary to come
out and tell us about his perverted sexual preferences (not that anyone was
asking), I can no longer distinguish between the real person and the
character he portrays. For me, the character of Mr. Sulu has been ruined.
A hell of a lot of TREK fans and others knew George was gay.
I knew 20 years ago.

The Tribbles always were kind of gay.

Roddenberry was an interesting guy and it would have been interesting to see
him make those changes he wanted too. Of course a lot of people think he
went loopy at the end of his life and the man who made TNG (and perhaps TMP)
was very different from the guy who made TOS, the real show. They said he
became softer, but I don't know I could be wrong.
I hoped I ruined STAR TREK for you, because you were never a fan of
TREK.
